I went up to Sara’s cabin to show those heathens how to burn corn on a grill and later to shove chocolate into bananas on the grill. In their defense they showed that peanut butter is a great addition. Score 1 Washington. I spent a lot of time trying to take artsy photos of moon light on water. Time would have been better spent learning the way of the corn grilling.
We hiked up Mt. Elanor to work up an appetite for dinner.

Saturday, August 21st, 2010Overnight Tree Climb
Sunday, August 15th, 2010My parents got Ingrid and I a night camping in the trees with Pacific Tree Climbing Institute (PTCI), outside of Eugene. We met up with the guides Rob and Jason around 5 to get a tour of the tree where we’d be staying. The tree was quite large and over 240 feet tall with lots of moss, like a normal tree. Another couple was there and seemed as psyched as we were. The PTCI manager and chef Debbie made us awesome dinner and dessert (marionberry pie) before we headed up the ropes.
We jumared up the static lines to the ‘tree boats’ where we’d sleep at 100 feet. After looking around a bit the guides took us up to near the top of the tree at 220 feet to watch the sunset. It was super cool to hang out in the tree top with the breeze and the birds. As the sun was going down we rappelled down to the boats and settled in for the night in our sleeping bags in the beds. As we went to sleep the wind picked up and moved the tree around quite a bit – we were very lucky, it normally doesn’t happen.
After listening to the creatures break branches on the ground in the night, Rob and Jason made us coffee and tea in the morning. We had hot scented towels to rinse off the pitch from our faces (though butter or mayo works better apparently). We said goodbye to the limbs and rappelled down to earth to a kickass breakfast by Debbie.

Sunday, July 4th, 2010We went down to the beach for the annual F-15 flyby, though this year there was a low ceiling and no flyover. So we had to be content with the traditional parade where we get pelted with candy. Simone wanted to be in the parade, she even had a special dress for the occasion. She didn’t forsee the repercussions of us getting very little candy when she wasn’t standing by us.
We did stood by other traditions and layzed around, grilled meat and took pictures of Simone. Ingrid’s mom, two brothers and girlfriend (she’s Tom’s girlfriend, not both of theirs girlfriend – that’d be weird) came down and hung out as well. I rode the Triumph down as it was supposed to be nice out, instead I had my first experience riding in the rain.
New Camera
Friday, June 25th, 2010I got a new camera as I broke my Canon while flailing around at Smith Rock. Insurance is covering the camera to get it fixed, but in the meantime I need a smaller camera. The new one is water/shock/cold/heat/dust proof, supposed to be at least. It should do better in the cold for next years mountain attempts. The macro lens works pretty well and it holds up to my strenous test of dunking in a pint glass of water.

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010Sara and Elan came down to Portland for the weekend. Sara made us an awesome chicken dinner and pomegranate martini. We paid her back by showing them the Waffle Window on Hawthorne.
Boxing
Friday, May 21st, 2010Ingrid and I have been taking a boxing class under Berg at her gym for a few months now. It’s about the most fun you can have with a workout, many times better than yoga. I’ve always thought my boxing was weak (when I did hapkido in college) and it’s nice to get proper instruction. About the only thing missing is actually hitting and getting hit.
