4th July 2010

We went down to the beach for the annual F-15 flyby, though this year there was a low ceiling and no flyover. So we had to be content with the traditional parade where we get pelted with candy. Simone wanted to be in the parade, she even had a special dress for the occasion. She didn't forsee the repercussions of us getting very little candy when she wasn't standing by us.
We did stood by other traditions and layzed around, grilled meat and took pictures of Simone. Ingrid's mom, two brothers and girlfriend (she's Tom's girlfriend, not both of theirs girlfriend - that'd be weird) came down and hung out as well. I rode the Triumph down as it was supposed to be nice out, instead I had my first experience riding in the rain.

Short Track II

This was the second Portland Mountain Bike Short Track race. The first has no pictures as I don't have a cable to get the internal memory photos to the computer. In any event, Ingrid had a great time scooting around the track.

Gutters finished

I replaced half of the front gutters a few months ago when they finally gave up the ghost and fell down. I thought spring was on the way and we'd have sun, but I saw the Ark go by and realized it was time to fix the other half of the gutters. Especially as half of the other half had fallen down.

New Camera, will it last

I got a new camera as I broke my Canon while flailing around at Smith Rock. Insurance is covering the camera to get it fixed, but in the meantime I need a smaller camera. The new one is water/shock/cold/heat/dust proof, supposed to be at least. It should do better in the cold for next years mountain attempts. The macro lens works pretty well and it holds up to my strenous test of dunking in a pint glass of water.

Smith in June

I went over to Smith for half a weekend to get in some climbing with Ron and Angel. We had perfect weather and good rock- ok, the rock didn't feel like marshmallows on the fingers.

Crank Brothers let me down

After years of being let down by Crank Brothers Eggbeaters I have finally been broken by their failure. I would always tout their awesome design and tell anyone who would listen how simple they are and therefore are bulletproof. I broke a new pair in under 500 miles of easy riding, this time it was the 'simple' part of the pedal. When I went to the garage for a replacement pair I saw the 5 boxes of used pedals that I have gone through. That is beyond ridiculous and it's time to move on.

Lost

Sara and Elan in town

Sara and Elan came down to Portland for the weekend. Sara made us an awesome chicken dinner and pomegranate martini. We paid her back by showing them the Waffle Window on Hawthorne.
