For Oscar’s 6th we rented out a play room at a bowling alley where they have a few huge rooms with toys and bouncy castles. His buddies came and they ate all the cake.
Marahau Camping
Long weekend camping at Old Macs in Mārahau, just near start of Abel Tasman track. We stayed in camp mostly as dogs are not allowed pretty much anywhere. Oscar got to paddle around on our SUP and a small kayak that lives at the watering hole. We used our new day tent and Oscar has his own tent attached to it. Worked out nicely. On way home we got him his own kayak and a new bike with gears.

Hike to Speargrass Hut
Our second overnight tramp was to Speargrass Hut. It was a longer way in than last time but Oscar made it through pretty easily. There were lots and lots of roots, and in his words a dumb river crossing. He found a perfect walking stick that should do well for him. The flies were pretty bad, and I found two more bug repellents that don’t work. It rained over night and was a little misty on the walk out so we suited up and took our time down the slick hills. Afterwords we got some chips for the drive home.

Quinneys Bush
We went to Quinneys Bush after New Years to camp for a few days. It’s a huge campground and has a swimming hole with slide, a huge flying fox (zipline), another huge water slide, and lots of biking for littles. Oscar had a great time running around and keeping in touch with us on our walkie talkies. Many kids came to know Burton and sit with us while he got much attention.
